Former world champion Mathieu van der Poel has clinched the Milan-San Remo spring classic for the second time. The Dutch cyclist emerged victorious in the 116th edition of the race after a grueling 289 kilometers, sprinting ahead of a three-man leading group that included Italian Filippo Ganna and Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar.
The German competitors, including former winner John Degenkolb, did not play a significant role in this first major cycling event of the 2025 season.
This marks van der Poel’s second triumph in San Remo, having previously won the prestigious race in 2023. Meanwhile, Pogacar continues to seek his first victory in this classic, having finished third in the sprint last year.
