World road cycling champion Tadej Pogacar has secured his first victory of the season. The Slovenian superstar triumphed in the mountain finish of the third stage of the UAE Tour, completing 181 kilometers to Jebel Jais, thereby overtaking Brit Josh Tarling to seize the lead in the overall standings.
Pogacar won after a final ascent of 21.1 kilometers with an average gradient of 5.1 percent, finishing ahead of British cyclist Oscar Onley and Austrian Felix Gall. The Tour de France champion now leads the general classification by 18 seconds over Tarling.
Prior to the finish line, Pogacar launched an attack, demonstrating the explosive capabilities of the 26-year-old that his competitors could not match. Last year, Pogacar recorded 25 victories, including a historic triple in the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, and World Championships. The UAE Tour is scheduled to conclude on Sunday.
