Ogunleye Wins Second Indoor Title with Personal Best

Kugelstoß-Olympiasiegerin Yemisi Ogunleye has clinched her second indoor German championship title, achieving a personal best throw of 20.27 meters in Dortmund. The 26-year-old accomplished this remarkable feat on her first attempt, surpassing her previous record of 20.19 meters.

With this performance, Ogunleye has sent a clear message to her international competitors, as only Canadian Sarah Mitton (20.68 meters) has performed better this year. As the Hallen-Europameisterschaft approaches in two weeks in Apeldoorn, Ogunleye is considered the top favorite.

Finishing second in Dortmund was Katharina Maisch, who also achieved a personal best of 19.10 meters. Alina Kenzel took third place with a throw of 18.36 meters.

Meyer Takes Over from Krause in the 3000 Meters

In the men’s competition, Eric Maihöfer won the title, representing VfL Sindelfingen from Baden-Württemberg, with a personal best throw of 20.37 meters. The defending champion Silas Ristl came in second with 19.68 meters.

The men’s 3000 meters saw a thrilling race, with Maximilian Thorwirth finishing first in 7:51.03 minutes, closely followed by Florian Bremm (7:51.13 minutes) and Sam Parsons (7:52.32 minutes). In the women’s event, the steeplechase specialist Lea Meyer emerged victorious with a time of 8:53.82 minutes. The defending champion Gesa Krause did not compete this season.
