National goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has announced his separation from his wife Daniela. The 32-year-old FC Barcelona player shared this news in a statement. The couple, who were married for eight years, are parents to two sons. The decision was not made lightly, according to the statement released in both English and Spanish.
“Hello everyone, after careful consideration, Dani and I have decided to go our separate ways. This decision was not easy for us, as you can imagine, but we both believe it is the best step for us,” the statement read. It emphasized that their main focus now is to do what is best for their children. The couple intends to co-parent respectfully and appreciatively, “as we always have,” it further stated.
They have requested understanding and respect for their privacy, particularly regarding their children. Ter Stegen’s first son was born in December 2019, followed by their second son in February.
Currently, ter Stegen is sidelined due to a knee injury sustained at the end of September. The former Bundesliga goalkeeper had expressed hope of returning to the Barcelona goal this season.
