Alpine World Cup Finals in Sun Valley
Swiss skier Lara Gut-Behrami has achieved a significant victory in the Super-G event, winning the World Cup title as the season came to a close. At the alpine finals held in Sun Valley, USA, the 33-year-old athlete delivered a dominant performance that allowed her to surpass Italian skier Federica Brignone, who finished third in the discipline standings.
In a surprising turn, 40-year-old Lindsey Vonn took second place, finishing 1.29 seconds behind Gut-Behrami. Brignone lagged 1.33 seconds behind the winner.
Emma Aicher and Kira Weidle-Winkelmann’s Performances
Emma Aicher, who recently celebrated her first World Cup victory in the Super-G just ten days prior, secured ninth place in Idaho with a time 2.01 seconds behind Gut-Behrami. Fellow German skier Kira Weidle-Winkelmann finished in eleventh place.
Weather Impacts on the Event
On the day prior, the downhill races at the alpine World Cup finals were canceled due to adverse weather conditions. Consequently, Marco Odermatt from Switzerland and overall World Cup champion Brignone were awarded the discipline World Cup titles. Odermatt had already secured the crystal globes for the overall World Cup as well as in the Super-G and giant slalom disciplines.
