Lara Gut-Behrami and Lindsey Vonn Shine at World Cup Finals

Lara Gut-Behrami wins the Super-G at the World Cup Finals while Lindsey Vonn surprises with a podium finish. Marco Odermatt falls short of the podium in men's competition.

Lara Gut-Behrami from Switzerland clinched the World Cup title in Super-G with a victory at the season finale in Sun Valley, USA. The 33-year-old displayed an outstanding performance, moving ahead of Italy’s Federica Brignone, who finished third, and securing her spot at the top of the discipline standings.

In an unexpected result, 40-year-old Lindsey Vonn finished second, 1.29 seconds behind Gut-Behrami. This marked Vonn’s first podium finish since her return to competition this season. Brignone trailed the winner by 1.33 seconds.

Emma Aicher, just ten days after her first World Cup Super-G victory, finished ninth in Idaho with a time 2.01 seconds slower than the winner. Kira Weidle-Winkelmann claimed the eleventh position.

Marco Odermatt Misses Podium

In the men’s race on the same course, Marco Odermatt, the discipline winner from Switzerland, finished fifth and did not reach the podium. The fastest time was surprisingly set by Austrian Lukas Feurstein, who had a 0.19-second lead over compatriot Raphael Haaser. Swiss skier Franjo van Allmen secured third place.

The sole German competitor, junior racer Benno Brandis, was eliminated during his first World Cup race after losing a ski without a fall after the second intermediate time. The 18-year-old had qualified for the World Cup finals as the junior world champion in Super-G.

Due to weather interruptions, the downhill races scheduled for the previous day were canceled. Consequently, both Odermatt and overall World Cup champion Brignone won their respective discipline titles. In addition to this, the 27-year-old had already secured the crystal globes in the overall standings as well as in the Super-G and giant slalom disciplines.
