Jonas Urbig’s surprise debut for Bayern Munich has been positively noted by his former club, 1. FC Köln. FC coach Gerhard Struber expressed his happiness for Urbig, stating, „Of course, I noticed that. And I was happy for him.“ He added, „He can be a goalkeeper for Bayern who can be a crucial factor.“
The 21-year-old goalkeeper talent transferred to Bayern Munich in the winter after losing his starting position to Marvin Schwäbe at Köln earlier in the season. On Wednesday, Urbig came on as a substitute for the injured Manuel Neuer during Bayern’s 3-0 victory against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League round of 16 first leg.
Struber emphasized Urbig’s abilities, saying, „We have known for a long time that Jonas Urbig understands his craft. He will continue to gain the trust at Bayern to develop as a personality.“
