Formula 1 Race in Bangkok Becomes More Concrete

Discussions for a potential Formula 1 race in Bangkok are advancing, with plans for a Grand Prix by 2028 taking shape after talks between F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and Thailand's Prime Minister.

The plans for a Formula 1 race in Bangkok are becoming increasingly tangible. The CEO of the motorsport series, Stefano Domenicali, held discussions in the Thai capital with Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The Prime Minister announced that a feasibility study will be commissioned to explore the possibility of hosting a Grand Prix on a street circuit in Bangkok starting in 2028.

Domenicali described the plans as ‚impressive‘ for an event in Bangkok. ‚I look forward to continuing our discussions in the coming weeks and months.‘

Interest from Africa and South America

The Formula 1 series is also set to hold 24 Grand Prix races this season. Domenicali is continuously seeking new, financially robust organizers for the growing racing series. There is interest from Africa, with both South Africa and Rwanda being potential candidates, as well as from South America, where Argentina remains a frequent mention. Madrid is a new addition to the calendar for next year.

Previous Efforts in Asia

Previously, a Formula 1 race in Vietnam was abandoned due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, the Asia-Pacific region includes locations like Australia, China, Japan, and Singapore on the Formula 1 calendar.

Thailand is a staple in the motorsport scene, with races taking place at the Chang International Circuit in Buri Ram, located approximately 410 kilometers northeast of Bangkok.
