German cycling talent Florian Lipowitz has once again showcased his strong form by improving to third place in the prestigious Paris-Nice race. The 24-year-old finished fifth in the fifth stage to Côte-Saint-André, just six seconds behind the French stage winner Lenny Martinez.
Meanwhile, two-time Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard lost the yellow jersey due to a crash. The Dane lost nearly half a minute to Martinez on the challenging final climb of 1.7 kilometers with an average gradient of 10.8 percent. After crossing the finish line, Vingegaard was seen complaining about wrist pain and had a cut on his lip.

The new overall leader is now Vingegaard’s teammate Matteo Jorgenson. The American is 22 seconds ahead of Vingegaard and 36 seconds ahead of Lipowitz, who had already secured fifth place in the mountain finish at La Loge des Gardes the day before. Following his impressive performances, Lipowitz is now wearing the white jersey as the best young professional.
On Friday, Paris-Nice will continue with the sixth stage from Saint-Julien-en-Saint-Alban to Berre l’Étang, covering 209.8 kilometers. The race will conclude on Sunday in Nice.
