FC Bayern Munich can no longer resist the trend of mandatory exit clauses for star players like top scorer Harry Kane and offensive jewel Jamal Musiala in modern football. This long-standing taboo no longer applies to the Bundesliga giants in Munich, as sporting director Christoph Freund indirectly acknowledged before the home match against SV Werder Bremen this Friday (8:30 PM/DAZN).
„There are always situations in football where compromises must be found. But we always want to achieve the best possible outcomes in individual negotiations and contracts,“ said the Austrian.
It is reported that 100-million-euro striker Kane (31) has a clause in his four-year contract, signed in summer 2023 upon his transfer from Tottenham Hotspur, allowing him to leave early each summer for a gradually decreasing double-digit million sum. However, this is not the wish of the English national team captain for this year.
Offensive star Musiala (21) is also said to be requesting an exit clause in ongoing negotiations with Bayern bosses for an extension beyond his contract’s end in summer 2026.
„We generally do not talk about contract details,“ Freund stated. However, he mentioned there are „different configurations“ among the players. „Believe me, we structure contracts in a way that is good and sensible for FC Bayern. We want to keep the best players at FC Bayern for as long as possible and maintain a top team together.“
Freund also commented on honorary president Uli Hoeneß’s wish to see Bayer Leverkusen’s young star Florian Wirtz (21) play in the Bayern jersey in the future. „Florian Wirtz is always a topic and an exceptionally good footballer. We know that, we all see it. Dreaming is always allowed,“ Freund remarked.
However, the sporting director emphasized that priorities lie with extending contracts for current top players such as Musiala and DFB captain Joshua Kimmich, who turns 30 this Saturday. „We have several issues that we need to resolve in the coming months. And that is the most important thing.“
