FC Barcelona triumphs with comeback victory over Atlético Madrid

FC Barcelona secures a thrilling 4:2 comeback victory against Atlético Madrid, showcasing their resilience and maintaining their lead in the league.

In a thrilling Liga match, FC Barcelona staged a remarkable comeback to beat Atlético Madrid 4:2, maintaining their position at the top of the league. Coach Hansi Flick expressed pride in his team’s performance, particularly after overcoming a 0:2 deficit.

Following goals from Robert Lewandowski (72nd minute), Ferran Torres (78th), Lamine Yamal (90+2), and another from Torres (90+8), Barcelona secured their seventh consecutive league victory. This came after goals from Julian Álvarez (45+1) and Alexander Sörloth (70) had initially put Atlético in a strong position.

Yamal ends long goal drought

The atmosphere in the dressing room was jubilant after a successful week that also saw Barcelona progress to the Champions League quarterfinals. Lamine Yamal, the young star, scored his first league goal since October 26, celebrating his late strike as a vital contribution.

„I knew that if I scored, it would be in an important match,“ said the 17-year-old regarding his decisive goal. „We were all together in the locker room and had fun. Out of anger and helplessness, we showed our best side.“

With this victory, Barcelona continues to lead the table, level on points with Real Madrid but with a game in hand and a superior goal difference. Atlético Madrid, on the other hand, now trails by four points and faces disappointment following their elimination from the Champions League against Real in a penalty shootout.
