Emma Aicher Celebrates Second World Cup Victory in La Thuile

Emma Aicher clinches her second World Cup win in La Thuile, overcoming local competitors and navigating a race interruption due to a medical emergency.

Ski prospect Emma Aicher has secured her second World Cup victory during the Super-G event in La Thuile. Just over a week after her debut win in Kvitfjell, Norway, the 21-year-old triumphed in the Aosta Valley ahead of Italian competitors Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone. Aicher’s teammate Kira Weidle-Winkelmann did not finish the race.

The race faced a 25-minute interruption due to a medical emergency, where rescue teams were seen attending to an individual at the side of the course. A rescue helicopter was later dispatched to the scene, though further details were not immediately available.

Aicher, who had already completed her run by this time, started with bib number three. The deteriorating conditions of the course likely provided an advantage to the rising German star.

After her impressive run, Aicher stated in an interview with ZDF that she simply aimed to push herself. She expressed surprise at her own speed, noting that the course set by German coach Karlheinz Pichler felt somewhat easier than it had during the inspection.

Unpredictable weather conditions had disrupted the racing schedule in La Thuile over the past few days, leading to the cancellation of the planned downhill event. A second Super-G is scheduled for Friday, where Aicher will have another opportunity to showcase her excellent form.

Following her outstanding performances at the World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm in February, Aicher has gained significant attention. Within less than two weeks, she has achieved two World Cup victories in different disciplines—first in downhill, then in the more technical Super-G.
