Brit dies in cycling accident at Mallorca 312 race

A 40-year-old Brit died after a fall during the Mallorca 312 cycling marathon, with authorities investigating potential medical causes.

In a tragic incident, a 40-year-old British man died during the popular amateur cycling marathon „Mallorca 312“ following an accident. The organizer confirmed the unfortunate news. The incident occurred in the morning near the mountain village of Valldemossa, located in the Tramuntana region of the western part of the holiday island.

Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that a medical emergency may have led to the cyclist’s fall, as reported by the newspaper „Diario de Mallorca.“ Some local media outlets suggested that a heart attack might have been a factor.

Emergency responders on the scene were able to briefly resuscitate the man, who was then transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to reports. The event organizers expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased.

The Mallorca 312 cycling race, held annually in the spring, marks the peak of the cycling holiday season on the island. Approximately 8,500 amateur riders participate in the 312-kilometer route, with spots selling out in just a few minutes each year.

For most participants, the goal is simply to finish, while only a handful of cyclists compete for victory. The event also invites former professional cyclists to participate. This year, the honorary starting number was awarded to Alejandro Valverde, who has taken on the role of national coach for the Spanish road cycling team this season.
