Bayern Munich and Kimmich Reach Agreement: ‚No More Poker‘

Bayern Munich's sports director confirms agreement with Joshua Kimmich regarding contract extension, focusing on final details before signing.

After the FC Bayern Munich’s home defeat to VfL Bochum, sports director Max Eberl has expressed confidence that national player Joshua Kimmich will extend his contract with the record champions. Eberl stated, „We all share the same opinion,“ during a press conference at the Allianz Arena following recent events.

The discussions regarding the extension beyond this season are now said to revolve around just a few final details. Eberl added, „We will announce something when it is signed. We are not playing poker, but there are a few matters to clarify.“ Kimmich, who is among the top earners on the Munich team, is expected to receive a four-year contract.

Agreement Requires Multiple Approvals

Eberl noted, „It is sufficiently described in public who all needs to agree,“ referring to the well-staffed Bayern supervisory board, which must approve investments in the multi-million range.

Regarding Kimmich, who has been with Bayern since 2015, Eberl stated, „Jo is a leader. We do not say it for nothing that when he extends his contract, he should be the captain in the future when Manuel (Neuer) is no longer on the pitch.“
