The basketball players of Bayern Munich made a significant leap towards the play-offs in the Euroleague with a remarkable comeback against FC Barcelona, winning the match 102-101. Following their 18th victory, the team under coach Gordon Herbert remains among the top six, which qualify directly for the quarter-finals. Just over a minute before the end, it seemed the German champions were on the verge of suffering their third consecutive defeat.
Although the first half ended almost evenly (56-55), the first quarters were markedly different. In the early stages, the lead changed hands 15 times, whereas the second quarter showcased the well-known basketball phenomenon of scoring runs. Bayern initially pulled ahead by eleven points before the hosts responded with a run of ten unanswered points.
Six Points in the Final Minute Turn the Game
Even after the break, Munich remained competitive against the on-form Spaniards but appeared to be on the brink of losing control in the final quarter. Just when Barcelona looked like the certain winner, Bayern made a remarkable comeback, regaining the lead 17 seconds before the final buzzer with free throws from Vladimir Lucic. The hosts had no chance to respond.
The standout player for Herbert’s team was Carsen Edwards, who scored 23 points, while former NBA player Jabari Parker also contributed 23 points for Barcelona. However, there is little time for celebration for the Munich team. They are set to face Serbian powerhouse Partizan Belgrade in their home city in just two days.
