Max Eberl, the sports director of Bayern Munich, is refraining from discussing the possibility of a „Titel dahoam“ as his team prepares for the first leg of the Champions League playoffs against Celtic Glasgow. „Of course, it hovers over us all, to be in the final at the end of May,“ Eberl said shortly before the German football record champions‘ departure for the match on Wednesday at 21:00 (DAZN). „The dream is there, but the pressure should not be too great. One shouldn’t focus on it too much.“
Instead, Eberl prefers to use a different expression, stating, „I now speak of the Playoff dahoam.“ He emphasized that it is crucial for FC Bayern to approach the knockout round with the first leg in Scotland in a way that ensures their progression. However, he acknowledged that it would indeed be exceptional to have the final in their home stadium. The Champions League final is scheduled to take place in Munich on May 31.
As they prepare for the energetic atmosphere at Celtic Park, Bayern aims to lay the groundwork for advancing to the Round of 16, just six days before the return match. „We want to create an excellent position,“ Eberl stated. Should they progress, Bayer Leverkusen or Atlético Madrid will be their next challenge in the knockout stage.
