First German Champion in the Competition
Skispringer Andreas Wellinger has achieved his first victory in the Raw Air competition series held in Norway. The 29-year-old Bavarian finished in second place in Vikersund, maintaining his overall lead in the four-day tour.
The day’s win at the ski flying finale on the world record hill went to Slovenian Domen Prevc, who achieved a flight of 247 meters. Japanese competitor Ryoyu Kobayashi rounded out the podium in third place. Wellinger is now the first German to clinch the title in this series.
Strong Performance Leading to Victory
The Olympic champion had secured the first individual victory for Germany in 2025 on Saturday, putting him in an excellent position for the final. Due to windy conditions, only one jump was completed instead of the planned three rounds, and the qualification round was also canceled. Earlier in the day, the women’s ski flying event was entirely called off.
Post-WM Calm
After the controversy surrounding the suit scandal at the World Championships, where Wellinger won silver behind the currently suspended Marius Lindvik, this weekend marked a return to some semblance of calm. Investigations into the manipulated suits are ongoing, and five Norwegian athletes are currently ineligible to compete.
