The American figure skater Alysa Liu is in a strong position to compete for gold at the World Figure Skating Championships in Boston after the short program. The 19-year-old scored 74.58 points, placing her ahead of Japan’s Mone Chiba, who earned 73.44 points, and her fellow American Isabeau Levito, who scored 73.33 points.
The free skate is scheduled to take place on Saturday night, Central European Time. Notably, there is no German competitor in this year’s women’s event for the first time since 2003, as no skater met the entry requirements set by the International Skating Union (ISU).
