The basketball team of Alba Berlin remains at the bottom of the Euroleague standings after a disappointing loss to Turkish club Anadolu Efes Istanbul, with a final score of 73-98 (35-48). This marks the 13th defeat for Alba in their last 14 appearances in the prestigious league. Yanni Wetzell led the scoring for Berlin with 20 points, followed by David McCormack with 13 points.
Newly signed Robert Baker II was not included in the squad, while injured players Matteo Spagnolo and Malte Delow also missed the match. However, wing player Justin Bean made his return after a four-month absence due to a wrist fracture.
Only Competitive at the Start
Initially, Alba started with confidence, managing to stay competitive early in the game, even taking a brief lead at 14-9 in the first quarter. However, their shooting accuracy from long range proved to be inadequate. In the second quarter, the team could only manage 14 points, allowing Istanbul to extend their lead to 13 points for the first time.
Following the halftime break, Alba regained some composure but never closed the gap to less than ten points in the third quarter. The Berlin defense struggled to contain the hosts‘ offense, and in the final quarter, Alba was left with no chances to turn the game around.
