Marco Reus is reportedly making a return to Borussia Dortmund, but not as a player. The 35-year-old is expected to become a brand ambassador for the Bundesliga club, according to reports from the ‘Ruhr Nachrichten’, citing comments from BVB managing director Carsten Cramer.
During a FIFA promotional tour for the upcoming Club World Cup in the USA next summer, Cramer mentioned, “I’ll just reveal this now. We want to bring someone on board who is currently playing in MLS.”
Reus, who left BVB after twelve years to join LA Galaxy in the Major League Soccer (MLS), won a championship title in his first season in the U.S. His contract with the club extends until the end of 2026. However, he has not ruled out a return to his beloved team, rather the opposite.
Shortly after his move, the former national player told ‘Sport-Bild’, “Given that I know so many people there and feel so connected, I would be quite foolish not to return.” While he did not specify the role, it now appears that his former club wants to incorporate him as a representative.
As a brand ambassador, Reus would join other BVB representatives and former players such as Patrick Owomoyela, Karl-Heinz Riedle, Jörg Heinrich, and Roman Weidenfeller in undertaking representative duties for the club.
