Finn Dahmen, the goalkeeper for Augsburg, has found himself closer to the German national football team due to a recent streak of matches without conceding a goal. In a podcast with the Augsburger Allgemeine, Dahmen revealed that he is on standby as a backup for the upcoming Nations League matches against Italy, should one of the three nominated goalkeepers become unavailable. The 26-year-old expressed his excitement, stating, „This is a very, very cool thing for me.“
DFB Call-Up Thanks to Excellent Defensive Record in Bundesliga
Dahmen clarified that while he is not officially part of the DFB squad yet, he emphasized, „I have not achieved anything. I am still quite far from playing.“ He noted that it was astonishing how quickly he received a call from the team’s goalkeeper coach, calling it a „great honor“ for him.
In recent weeks, Dahmen and the Augsburg team have demonstrated remarkable defensive capabilities. The team has gone 613 minutes in the Bundesliga without conceding a goal, making them the only unbeaten team in the second half of the season.
