Trainer Sebastian Hoeneß has made a strong statement to the players of VfB Stuttgart in light of the recent negative streak. Following the 2:2 draw against newly promoted Holstein Kiel, the coach of the German football vice-champions sought a conversation with the team.
„I already found very clear words during the halftime break on Saturday. On Sunday, they were even clearer and perhaps a bit louder,“ said Hoeneß. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s performance, stating he made that clear to them.
Particularly in the first half against Kiel, the VfB, winless in their last four Bundesliga matches, disappointed. With only five out of a possible 21 points from the last seven games, the team’s chances for European competition qualification are in jeopardy.
Leverkusen Also Struggling
On Sunday at 19:30 CET (DAZN), the Stuttgarters will face the struggling double winners Bayer Leverkusen. The team has recently suffered three consecutive defeats in competitive matches, including an elimination from the Champions League against FC Bayern Munich.
„We want to finally win now. We have been close enough often enough,“ Hoeneß said, referring to several thrilling encounters with Leverkusen in recent times. However, he emphasized that his team needs to deliver an „absolute top performance“ to secure a victory.
