Mario Götze has been lauded following his impressive performance against Ajax Amsterdam. The 2014 World Cup winner capped off his outstanding display during Eintracht Frankfurt’s 4:1 win in the Europa League Round of 16 second leg with two spectacular goals, earning him significant recognition.
Frankfurt’s sporting director Markus Krösche noted, „He hasn’t scored a double before for us, and to do so with such beautiful goals shows how vital Mario is for our young team. He was a cornerstone in the match.“ Götze notably executed a stunning long-range strike from approximately 40 meters to seal the score, creating a memorable moment.
Eintracht coach Dino Toppmöller praised Götze’s technique, stating, „He probably scores that ten out of ten times because he possesses that skill. He deserves high praise, and he has received it.“ Sporting director Timmo Hardung described Götze’s goals as simply „mouthwatering.“
Despite the accolades, the 32-year-old veteran remained humble, attributing the compliments to his teammates. He remarked, „We played very well, just like we did in Amsterdam. It was a good step for us,“ and expressed awareness of the challenge ahead in the quarter-finals against Tottenham Hotspur: „That will be tough. We need to stay focused.“
Others highlighted Götze’s importance to Eintracht. Toppmöller commented, „He plays very selflessly, without trying to stand out. He doesn’t seek to shine. That is the key. He possesses footballing calmness and is a Champions League player. We know that. It is even more pleasing that he displayed it today.“
Krösche shared similar sentiments, stating, „Mario is an extremely important player. In a young team like ours, you need players who can anchor the squad and deliver performances that help the team in challenging matches.“
