Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League Success Sparks Hope for Bundesliga Revival

Borussia Dortmund progresses to the Champions League quarter-finals, inspiring optimism for their Bundesliga campaign despite current struggles.

Sebastian Kehl expressed visible relief following Borussia Dortmund’s successful advancement to the Champions League quarter-finals after defeating OSC Lille. The BVB sporting director remarked, „We know that we are once again among the best eight in Europe. This is a really good sign from Borussia Dortmund. It shows that this team can achieve great things,“ as he smiled during his statement. „It is a totally deserved progression. We must continue this way.“

Kehl draws optimism from the strong performance of the recently struggling Dortmund team for the rest of the Bundesliga season. Currently, BVB sits in tenth place, with a seven-point gap from the minimal goal of qualifying for the Champions League again.

Dortmund’s Upcoming Challenges Against Rivals

Kehl noted that the Bundesliga season is far from over, stating, „In the Bundesliga, the season is not closed yet. Therefore, I would not want to raise the white flag just yet.“ Borussia Dortmund is set to play against direct competitors, starting with a match against RB Leipzig on Saturday, followed by games against FSV Mainz 05 after the international break and SC Freiburg. „These matches provide the opportunity to compete against direct rivals, gather points, and close the gap. That is the objective,“ he emphasized.

Following these three matches, Dortmund faces FC Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel acknowledged the challenge ahead: „We are definitely the underdogs. They are a fantastic opponent, and it will certainly be a very tough task.“
