Andreas Wellinger has ended his weeks-long slump just in time for the season’s highlight, winning the silver medal at the Nordic Ski World Championships in Trondheim. The 29-year-old Bavarian athlete jumped 106.5 and 104.5 meters in the competition from the normal hill, finishing only behind Norway’s Marius Lindvik. Austria’s Jan Hörl took home the bronze medal.
In a high-caliber competition, the world-class ski jumpers faced challenging conditions with continuous rain and strong winds. Karl Geiger managed to secure fourth place as the second-best German competitor. Before the individual event in Norway, the team led by head coach Stefan Horngacher had struggled for about two months in all competitions without a podium finish.
Following the first individual event in the second week of the World Championships, the ski jumpers will have three more contests on the large hill. On Wednesday at 16:00, there will be a mixed team event, followed by a team competition the next day. The individual world champion from the large hill will be determined on Saturday.
