Disappointing return to action

The basketball team of FC Bayern Munich started its final eight group matches in the Euroleague with a loss after a three-week break. The German champions lost to Paris Basketball, a fellow table competitor, with a score of 88 to 93 (38:47). This defeat marks the eleventh loss for Bayern in 27 out of a total of 34 group games.

Playoff prospects in jeopardy

As a result of this loss, Bayern’s sixth-place standing, which secures direct entry into the playoffs, is now at risk. Furthermore, after losing the direct match against the French team following a previous victory of 109:107, they stand at a disadvantage in the event of a tie on points. Carsen Edwards led the team with 29 points.

Match highlights

In the first two quarters, Bayern experienced both highs and lows. They fell behind early and managed to come within two points (11:13) only in the opening minutes. Paris quickly responded, extending their lead to 18:11 and later to 23:15 from a previous 18:15 lead. Nevertheless, Bayern fought back.

Inconsistent performance

Despite being down by 13 points in the second quarter, they narrowed the gap to five points. However, Paris responded with a 9-0 run. Bayern struggled for consistency but managed to reduce the deficit to nine points by halftime.

Second-half efforts

After the break, head coach Gordon Herbert’s team demonstrated their comeback capabilities, cutting a 13-point deficit down to four. However, Paris quickly regained momentum.
