The basketball team of FC Bayern Munich started its final eight group matches in the Euroleague with a loss after a three-week break. The German champions lost to Paris Basketball, a fellow table competitor, with a score of 88 to 93 (38:47). This defeat marks the eleventh loss for Bayern in 27 out of a total of 34 group games.
Playoff prospects in jeopardy
As a result of this loss, Bayern’s sixth-place standing, which secures direct entry into the playoffs, is now at risk. Furthermore, after losing the direct match against the French team following a previous victory of 109:107, they stand at a disadvantage in the event of a tie on points. In the first two quarters, Bayern experienced both highs and lows. They fell behind early and managed to come within two points (11:13) only in the opening minutes. Paris quickly responded, extending their lead to 18:11 and later to 23:15 from a previous 18:15 lead. Nevertheless, Bayern fought back.
Inconsistent performance
Despite being down by 13 points in the second quarter, they narrowed the gap to five points. However, Paris responded with a 9-0 run. Bayern struggled for consistency but managed to reduce the deficit to nine points by halftime.
Second-half efforts
After the break, head coach Gordon Herbert’s team demonstrated their comeback capabilities, cutting a 13-point deficit down to four. However, Paris quickly regained momentum. Bayern’s inconsistency hindered their performance, but they managed to come within three points (68:71) before the final quarter. Ultimately, the guests were unable to take control of the game.
