RB Leipzig has taken a stand against the racist attacks aimed at their striker, Loïs Openda. Following the Bundesliga home match against FC St. Pauli, Openda was subjected to numerous racist comments on social media. The club issued a statement condemning these attacks and expressed their unwavering support for the player.
The 24-year-old Belgian, who has Moroccan roots, has had a challenging time recently, going nine competitive matches without scoring a goal and not finding the net in 2025. In the game against St. Pauli, he was substituted in the 73rd minute for goal-scorer Benjamin Sesko, and subsequently faced abuse online.
RB Leipzig’s statement read: „The racist insults and hostility directed at Loïs Openda disgust us, leaving us both angry and saddened. We strongly condemn racism and inhumane behavior. Loïs has the full support of the club, and together we will fight against all forms of discrimination.“
