Former world champion Sergio Ramos is set to conclude his successful football career in Mexico. The 38-year-old Spanish defender will join CF Monterrey in Liga MX. According to the club, the 2012 European champion has signed a one-year contract that extends until December 31, 2025.
This Sunday, Ramos will be officially introduced alongside five other new signings. The head coach at Monterrey is Martin Demichelis, a former player with FC Bayern.
Upcoming Challenges
With the five-time Mexican champion, Ramos, who will wear the number 93, is also expected to participate in the Club World Cup next summer in the USA. His team will face River Plate from Buenos Aires, Urawa Red Diamonds from Japan, and Inter Milan in the group stage.
A Legacy of Success
Ramos achieved his greatest successes with Real Madrid, where he spent 16 years, winning four Champions League titles, four Club World Cups, and five Spanish league titles, among other honors. Afterward, he became a two-time French champion with Paris Saint-Germain.
His last appearance was for FC Sevilla, where he played his final match in a 1:2 defeat against FC Barcelona on May 26, 2024. Following the expiration of his contract, he remained without a club until now.

Club president Jorge Antonio Noriega expressed enthusiasm about Ramos’s signing, stating, „We tried to sign him last summer but couldn’t reach an agreement. We made another attempt, and the team needs him. He has quality, immense experience, a tremendous personality, and is an undisputed leader.“
